Youngsters in Redcar need somewhere to take their kids' swimwear.

A group of children from the north-east town have discussed how the lack of facilities has hampered them with Gazette Live.

Nine-year-old Lewis Thorpe said the local council should build a pool in the town as families without a car struggle to access facilities.

Meanwhile, 14-year-old Kayleigh Caldwell said a pool would help youngsters who do not know how to swim get up to speed.

Nicki Duckworth, nine, added that not being able to go swimming with her family left her "embarrassed" during sessions with her school.

"I can't swim and I had to go in the little pool," she said. "Because we don't have a car we can't go anywhere for swimming."

Local children's worker Theresa Cave concurs with the kids' comments and said she was disappointed that a recent leisure development in nearby Coatham was vetoed.

"We want to ensure we still get the baths," she remarked.

Earlier this month, youth mentor Angela Pearson told the Yorkshire Evening Post that packing up the kids' swimwear and taking children to the pool helps to build their confidence.
