Youngsters could have great fun getting on their kids' wellies and creating a nature garden this summer.Parenting website MyChild.co.uk has offered tips on keeping little ones amused during the holidays and suggested home-based projects are a good idea.
This could include getting their hands dirty in the garden or compiling a photograph album indoors if the weather turns.
To ensure children do not get bored, MyChild.co.uk publisher Mark Edwards advised parents to take them on "one big day out" every fortnight.
Zoos or water parks could be the perfect destinations for these types of trips, he said, adding that cheaper alternatives include beaches and museums.
Mr Edwards explained: "For many parents, the summer holidays can be highly stressful as they battle against the cries of 'I'm bored' for six weeks."
However, some parents could end up in debt as they keep their little ones amused this summer, according to research by Elizabeth Finn Care.
Some 31 per cent admitted they cannot afford a holiday this year, while 15 per cent predicted they will be £500 in the red by the time their children go back to school in September.
