When he's not filming his latest Hollywood blockbuster The Conspirator over the next few months, it's likely James McAvoy will be stocking up on winter all in ones, baby changing bags and travel cots.

This is because the Last King of Scotland actor has announced he and his wife Anne-Marie Duff are preparing for a new arrival.

The couple announced the happy news through their publicist, who stated: "We are happy to confirm that James McAvoy and Anne-Marie Duff are expecting their first child."

News of the bundle of joy comes just months after Duff revealed she would love a baby and hinted that she was waiting for nature to take its course.

McAvoy, who is also known for his roles in Atonement and Wanted, met his spouse when the pair worked on UK drama Shameless.

Duff has also appeared in programmes such as The Virgin Queen and Margot, while also starring in plays such as King Lear.
