Holidaymakers packing up their child rollalong suitcases with kids' swimwear for a trip to Guernsey can expect to enjoy a traditional break.

Local tourism authority VisitGuernsey underlined how the Channel Islands destination is "not a manufactured resort".

However, director of marketing and tourism Chris Elliott suggested this can only be a good thing, allowing families to enjoy a "high quality experience".

Much of this can be attributed to the island's location in the English Channel, which produces exceptional seafood, he explained.

Another aspect of the destination which appeals is its sense of community spirit, which is passed on by local people to holidaymakers.

Meanwhile, parents may welcome the fact the island is only an hour's flight from the British mainland and enjoys pleasant weather most of the year.

Mr Elliott remarked: "There is a feeling amongst the holiday buying public for the sorts of experiences that they remember happily from their younger days … where the people are nice, where you are relaxed and laid back, where the food is good."

Recent research by VisitGuernsey found 53 per cent of holidaymakers are nostalgic about holidays they took with their families as children.
