Youngsters in Burton were left disappointed during the recent heatwave when they were unable to wear their kids' swimwear in an outdoor pool.

Parents have slammed the decision to keep the facility on Shobnall Playing Fields closed during the hottest days of the year.

Louise Marsh said her three children were upset when they discovered they would not be given the chance to splash around in their kids' swimwear.

"I went and picked my daughter up from school with her swimming costume so we could come straight here and then when we got here we saw it was closed," the 32-year-old mum told the Burton Mail.

A spokesman for East Staffordshire Borough Council said the pool had to be closed for essential maintenance work to ensure youngsters' safety.
He conceded that the authority's timing "could be better", adding that the pool should be open again soon.

According to Lidos.org.uk, there are numerous outdoor pools in Britain where youngsters can take their kids' swimwear.

Among them is Bourne Outdoor Swimming Pool in Lincolnshire and Guildford Lido in Surrey.
