Packing up the kids' swimwear and hitting the pool for some exercise is set to prove popular at a school in Dunstable this summer.

This is because £70,000 has been spent on giving the leisure facility at Ardley Hill Lower School a facelift, according to Dunstable Today.

Putting a cover over the pool means that the swim sessions - which are available to the local community as well as pupils of the school - will no longer be dictated by the weather.

Other alterations include a rubberised floor, with plans to install solar thermal heating technology also in the pipeline.

Speaking to the news provider at the centre's official opening, headteacher Susan Watts remarked: "I'm very happy with the work. Parents and children are also very impressed with the new-look pool."

Improvements have also been made to a pool in Exeter recently.

Youngsters who take their kids' swimwear to the city's swimming club premises will be able to use new starting blocks thanks to a Sport England grant, reports the Express & Echo.
