Families will have a great time if they pack up their children's travel suitcases and head for Gozo this year.

This is according to Irish Independent commentator Tom Hall, who offered advice on Mediterranean holiday destinations in response to a question from a reader.

Colette Crowne from Cork wanted to know where would be good to take her daughters for a vacation this year, explaining they love swimming in their kids' swimwear and hitting the beach.

Mr Hall recommended Malta could be a useful option to consider, as it is great for exploring and has many nice hotels.

He said Gozo, with is found next to the island, is a good alternative as it has a laid-back atmosphere.

"You can stay in a converted farmhouse with a pool and leave the crowds behind," Mr Hall stated.

Families looking to take the children's travel suitcases a little closer to home could enjoy a break in Newquay this year.

Tourism authority VisitCornwall underlined how the town is ideally situated for exploring the east and west of the county.
