Praise has been heaped on a group of youngsters who wore kids' swimwear and children's swimsuits during a recent charity event.

The meeting, at Shipston Swimming Pool, boosted the coffers of the Children with Leukaemia charity to the tune of £2,500.

St David's Primary School headteacher Karen Harding, who organised the event, told the Tewkesbury Admag that the youngsters who took part made a big effort.

"I had 22 swimmers in the end and the children who swam were simply amazing, with one six-year-old managing to swim 26 lengths," she remarked.

The group swam almost 15 miles during the event, which Ms Harding said was a great feat.

Earlier this year, youngsters from Swindon Amateur Swimming Club got on their children's swimsuits and jumped in the pool to raise £4,175 for the NSPCC.

According to This is Wiltshire, celebrities such as ex-Olympian Sharon Davies and TV presenter Johnny Ball cheered the kids on.
