Families looking to enjoy a taste of paradise this summer could take their beach tents to Bali.

According to travel guide Wanderlust, the far east destination is home to some truly stunning beaches, such as Kuta and Bondi.

Commercial editor Paul Bloomfield suggested a trip to the Indonesian island could be split between sun-worshipping and cultural sight-seeing.

The town of Ubud offers dance performances and shadow puppet shows, while Ulu Watu is a hotspot for water sports.

Mr Bloomsfield remarked: "Bali isn't trying to be Thailand, despite similarities in the attractions for travellers – great beaches, diving and food. It's quite unique."

Families with younger children may decide to take their beach tents to a short-haul destination instead.

Last month, the Croatian National Tourist Office underlined how the eastern European country has some glorious beaches.

Director of the authority Meri Matesic said Croatia is a great budget destination, adding it is a nation filled with "difference and diversity".
