Families who wish to educate their kids could pack up their children's suitcases and head for Poland this summer.

According to the Poland National Tourist Board (PNTB), the best way to enjoy a truly authentic break in the eastern European nation is to explore a little off the beaten track.

This involves visiting one of its rural towns or villages, such as Bialka Tatrzanska, which is home to some interesting highland architecture.

Koniakow and Istebna in the Beskid Slaski region offer a chance to sample lace-making, while Zalipie is known for being home to houses decorated with "joyful paintings of flowers".

Marketing and tourist information executive at PNTB Agnieszka Bigaj remarked: "To immerse yourself in Polish history, culture and traditions, you need to meet Polish people on private or family occasions."

She added that the country offers great value for money.

Those who have yet to pack up their children's suitcases and head abroad this summer may be wise to book a break in eastern Europe, if a recent survey is to be believed.

The Tesco Travel Money poll found that Bulgaria, Poland and Hungary are offering the best deals in 2010.
