Those who pack up their children's suitcases and head for Jamaica have been told to expect great value for money.

According to the Jamaica Tourist Board (JTB), there are currently favourable exchange rates against the pound - despite the fact a recent Post Office Travel Money Monitor poll revealed sterling's slump has affected the Jamaican dollar.

A spokesman said many travellers are still set to be attracted by the island's "packed events calendar".

The first quarter of 2010 saw a 9.2 per cent increase in international visitors, which included a three per cent hike in British tourists.

Big happenings this summer include Jamaica Style Week between July 8th and 11th 2010 and the Reggae Sumfest a week later.

The JTB spokesman said the destination offers "something for everyone".

He added: "Along with its infamous beaches the island offers a fantastic variety of adventure activities, unique cultural experiences and natural attractions."
