Families heading to France with their children's travel suitcases this year may opt for Brittany.

According to the Association of British Travel Agencies (ABTA), the north-west corner of the country is a "classic" destination for those holidaying with children.

Spokesperson Sean Tipton claimed the region, with includes cities such as Brest, is the most popular French destination outside of Paris.

"It's very easy to get to, it's particularly attractive for families on a budget because there are a lot of campsites there," he remarked.

Mr Tipton explained that families are attracted by the beautiful countryside and tasty food in France, adding that favourable weather and good value keep travellers coming back year after year.

Earlier this month, those deciding where to take the children's travel suitcases this year may have been swayed by comments from the Malta Tourism Authority.

It stated that the island gets 300 days of sunshine every year, meaning it is perfect for topping up a suntan.
