Parents looking to soak up the sun off the beaten track could take their baby back carriers to Lithuania this summer.

According to the Lithuanian National Tourism Office (LNTO), the eastern European nation has "endless beaches of white sand" - which mean it is also worth packing the beach tents for the trip.

A baby back carrier could also come in useful when going on a city stroll, an activity recommended by LNTO director Augusta Jaudgyte.

The "cosy and lively" town of Klaipeda could be a good bet for a fun destination, she said.

"[It] is a great place," the official added. "The most popular tourist attraction for adults and children alike is the Sea Museum with its amazing dolphinarium and fantastic aquariums filled with exotic fish."

Last year, a five per cent increase in visitors was recorded by the Klaipeda Tourism and Culture Information centre.

Some 2.3 per cent of the 70,177 tourists in 2009 hailed from the UK.
