The countryside in Cyprus is great for exploring on foot - meaning holidaymakers with little ones in tow may decide to bring along baby back carriers.

According to Lillian Panayi, spokesperson for the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO), heading off the beaten track can help travellers enjoy a truly unique break.

She recommended driving to some of the country's smaller towns and villages, where a relaxing walk could help holidaymakers build up an appetite for the delicious local cuisine.

"For me, the highlight is to sit in a little village in a restaurant, al fresco, a local Cypriot lady comes out, the food she cooks is the traditional way as if she is cooking for her family," Ms Panayi remarked.

Dishes such as kleftiko and drinks such as Greek coffee are well worth a try, she added.

Parents planning a staycation could also find plenty of destinations where they will get lots of use out of baby back carriers.

The Peak District and Lake District are filled with walking trials suitable for all members of the family.
