A parent who took her children and their kids' swimwear to a public pool has expressed her disappointment at restrictions on the use of the facility.

Julie Palmer, 37, planned a day out at Abbeycroft Leisure Centre in Suffolk after receiving a text message reminder about its services for young people, reports the Haverill Echo.

She took her 12-year-old sons along to the centre, but was told by staff that the pool was not open to children.

The bemused mother was told that the text message should have been updated and that there would be no pool time for kids until 19:00 BST.

One person who believes youngsters should be given every chance possible to use their kids' swimwear is Olympic gold medal winner Duncan Goodhew.

Last month, he told the Aberdeen Press and Journal that is a disgrace many little ones are not given the chance to hit the pool due to a lack of facilities or opportunities.

He believes a minimum requirement for swimming ability should be set by education and health chiefs in the UK.
