Children will love getting on their kids wellies and taking part in a spot of pond dipping, if one group of youngsters are anything to go by.

Haddocks Wood Allotment Society (HWAS) held a family fun day in Cheshire over the weekend, where little ones enjoyed checking their nets for pond life, reports Runcorn and Widnes World.

When they weren't getting their hands dirty and checking out the local wildlife, the kids enjoyed a show by an entertainer.

Meanwhile, bric-a-brac sales and tours of the vegetable plots kept their parents amused.

Disability charity Scope is set to be the beneficiary of any monies raised at the bash.

Vice chair of HWAS Frank Willcock remarked: "We had a good day [and saw] a steady stream of people, must have been around 200. Scope brought a lot of their clients down and they really had a good time."

According to the British Ecological Society, it is a good idea to wear kids wellies when taking part in pond dipping, as the edges of water features can be muddy.
