Giving a child a toddler backpack with reins could be a sensible way of managing behaviour by giving youngsters freedom but keeping them close by.

Tips like this were recently doled out at a parenting forum in the north-east, where experts offered advice on how to keep todder's tantrums in check.

Speaking to the Sunderland Echo, mum Laura Kemp explained that the Family Nurturing Programme proved a real help in her day-to-day life.
She learned more about how kids can be taught about rewards and consequences and shared her experiences with other local mums and dads.

"It was full of parents just like me, who had good family relationships, but thought there were areas where they could improve their parenting skills," Ms Kemp said.

She added she would recommend the course to any mum or dad looking to improve how they deal with challenging situations.

Some parents can choose to swap tips on blogs - Jessie Staggs recently told the Cumberland Times-News that conversing with other new mums online has proved really useful.
