Parents who opt for cloth nappies over disposables under their tot's all in one suit can save money and the environment.

This is the view of Celebrity Baby Blog contributor Constance Marie, who regularly shares her experiences of being a mother.

She argued that disposable nappies are not only bad for the planet, filling landfill sites, but also remove moisture from a baby's skin.

After reading research about the use of cloth nappies during pregnancy, Ms Marie decided to go ahead and invested in a batch.

She said the move has saved her a significant sum of money since Luna Marie was born 16 months ago.

Although some may think using cloth nappies is a messy and laborious process, in fact it is simple, the columnist said.

"[I] put them in a bin and at the end of the day, throw them in the wash. Presto! They are clean! I do not have to soak them, use bleach or any special cleaning solvent," she remarked.

Last month, Guardian columnist and new mum Hilary Osborne urged mothers to see if their local council runs a discount scheme for reusable cloth nappies.
