Halloween is a time to dress up, bob for apples and have a great time. That is easy to do with the older kids but toddlers are a little different. Yet as a parent we don’t want to leave them out of the fun. Below are some tips for a few fun things you can do to help your toddler feel as big as the other kids and enjoy a fun and safe Halloween.

Let your toddler help you choose a pumpkin when you go shopping. Explain what the pumpkin will be used for and spend some time helping them to decorate it. The fun part for them will be helping you clean out the gooey guts of the pumpkin before you carve it. Make sure the face you carve isn’t too scarey. This is a great way for your toddler to feel that they are a big part of the Halloween festivities.

Costumes are a big part of Halloween and toddlers love to dress up. Most Supermarkets start selling a great selection of Halloween costumes in early October. Make sure you choose one with plenty of room, so your child can wear warm layers underneath.

Why not also choose a Halloween story book. Toddlers love to be read to and reading about pumpkins, trick or treating and friendly witches and ghosts is a great way to not only spend time with your children but also to get them prepared for Halloween night.

It is best to take your toddler trick or treating before it gets dark. Only take them to neighbours or friends houses so they can see some familiar faces. Give them their own bucket or bag to collect their treats in so they feel just as big as the other children. Once you get home let your toddler stay in their costume and help you to hand out the treats to the older trick or treaters that will be stopping by. Your toddler will have lots of fun answering the door and seeing all the local children dressed up in their great costumes.
