Whether buying toddler swimming trunks or outdoor baby clothes, shopping for kids' garments allows parents to indulge their inner fashionista.

This is according to Prima magazine's features editor Georgina Wintersgill, who said modern children's clothing is of a much higher quality than in the past.

Purchasing children's swimwear or toddler rainwear does not have to break the bank to be trendy, as value and style go hand in hand.

Ms Wintersgill remarked: "Most women I know with two–year-olds, their [kids] look much better than they do because you can buy really fantastic comma very trendy outfits for kids these days."

Her comments follow recent research by Mintel, which found that parents are reluctant to slash their children's clothing budgets during the recession.

Some 14 per cent of consumers have not cut back on shopping for their kids and have instead made personal sacrifices.

Some three per cent admitted they are happy to pay higher prices for celebrity-styled garments.
