Doting mum Karin Joyce makes sure she packs up the children's swimsuits and takes her 18-month-old daughter to the pool at least once a week.

The 39-year-old, who writes the Cafe Bebe blog, told the Sun being a stay-at-home mother can be tough, but that finding affordable activities in her local area makes it easier.

She explained that many of the mums she befriended earlier in her daughter's life have gone back to work and she cannot afford expensive activities due to the family surviving on one wage.

However, collecting together her swimming buoyancy aids and water confidence toys before hitting the pool is one way Ms Joyce enjoys some fun with her little one without breaking the bank.

She has also joined in at her local Sure Start Children's Centre, where she has met other mums in a similar position.

"I can't afford a gym, but we try to go swimming once a week and I also make sure we get out of the house every day for a walk," she told the newspaper.

Earlier this month, Scottish parents Lesley and Hugh Mulholland told the Glasgow Evening News that taking children's swimwear to the pool makes for a fun family activity.
